HC Deb 08 June 1982 vol 25 c11W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is expected to be the increased capital cost per car manufactured to run on petrol without lead following the redesign of engines to eliminate lead in petrol.

Mr. Butcher

The most recently available information is contained in the report of the inter-departmental working party on lead in petrol, published in July 1979. A copy of this report, entitled "Lead in Petrol. An assessment of the feasibility and costs of further action to limit lead emissions from vehicles" is available in the Library of the House. Details of the cost to the motor industry of modifying engines to run on unleaded petrol are given in paragraphs 70 to 77 and in annex 15 of the report.
