HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 c582W
34. Mr. Bill Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals he has to improve job prospects in Tayside; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

In recognition of their special problems, the Dundee and Arbroath areas of Tayside have special development area status qualifying for maximum Government and European regional aid. Blairgowrie also enjoys development area status. In addition, the Scottish Development Agency is giving the Dundee area a high degree of priority. The area is already benefiting from the initiative in Blackness; and the proposed £39 million project for the waterfront on which the agency will co-operate with the local authorities and the private sector will further improve local job prospects.
