HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 c582W
36. Mr. Corrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many fish farms producing (a) salmon and (b) rainbow trout are operating in Scotland; and how many new farms have applied for grants in 1982.

Mr. Younger

In 1981, the latest year for which figures are available, returns to my Department indicate that in Scotland salmon farming was established at 27 fresh water and 35 sea sites: and trout farming was established at 84 sites. There is more than one scheme of assistance for which fish farmers, depending on their circumstances, can apply. I am aware of five applications for financial assistance that have been received in 1982 in respect of new fish farms.
