§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of those in receipt of mobility allowance, whose entitlement has been reviewed at the end of their first five-year period in reciept of benefit, have lost entitlement on review; and how many of them have regained their entitlement on appeal.
§ Mr. RossiDecisions on claims for renewal of mobility allowance at the end of the previous award period were not counted separately from decisions on other claims until44W October last year. In the first six weeks since then about 16 per cent. of the renewal claims decided were disallowed. Awards of mobility allowance are for varying periods from a year upwards, and it would involve disproportionate expense to provide separate figures for those cases in which the previous award was for five years. Disallowed claims which go to appeal are not analysed according to whether there was a previous award.
§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many applications for mobility allowance are currently awaiting determination; and how this compares with his figure 12 months ago and two years ago respectively.
§ Mr. RossiThe numbers of claims awaiting determination in the last week of November in each year are as follows:
Number 1979 37,100 1980 15,600 1981 34,300 The high figure for 1979 reflects claims from the final age group, who became entitled to the allowance in the November. No similar factor applies to the very high level of claims throughout 1981.
