asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the number of housing starts in Scotland in general, and the Borders region in particular, for the year 1981.

Mr. Younger

It is estimated that there were about 15,800 housing starts in Scotland in 1981, of which 290 were in the Border region.
