Mr. Ashley

asked the Attorney-General what is the total sum of patients' funds administered by the Court of Protection.

The Solicitor-General

[pursuant to his reply, 8 February 1982, c. 283]: The total sum under the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection is estimated to be approximately £450,000,000.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Attorney-General how many new cases came within the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection in each of the last three years.

The Solicitor-General

[pursuant to his reply, 8 February 1982, c. 283]: In each of the years 1979, 1980 and 1981 respectively, 4,157, 4,277 and 4,266 new cases were brought within the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Attorney-General if he will estimate the number of patients at present under the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection.

[pursuant to his reply, 8 February 1982, c. 283]: On 31 December 1981, 23,283 patients' estates were under the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Attorney-General how many patients within the remit of the Court of Protection were visited by the Lord Chancellor's visitors in each of the last three years.

The Solicitor-General

[pusuant to'his reply, 8 February 1982, c. 283]: In each of the three years beginning 1 October 1978, 1979 and 1980 respectively, 1,201, 1,148 and 1,135 visits were carried out by the Lord Chancellor's visitors.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Attorney-General what proportion of the funds under the control of the Court of Protection are invested in the common investment funds in court.

The Solicitor-General

[pursuant to his reply, 8 February 1982, c. 283]: Between 3 per cent. and 4 per cent. of the total funds under the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection are invested in the common investment fund.
