HC Deb 09 February 1982 vol 17 c363W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many rape crisis centres exist in Scotland; and if he will consider providing funds to establish such centres in Scotland through the appropriate applications under the urban aid programme and provide the additional funds necessary to staff such centres with full time employees.

Mr. Rifkind

There are at present two rape crisis centres in Scotland. We would consider any application for grant under the urban programme in terms of the normal criteria and priorities, as set out in the reply my right hon. Friend gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Renfrewshire, East (Mr. Stewart) on 4 February 1981.—[Vol. 998, c. 134–35.] It should be said, however, that it is probable that such a centre would seek to serve a broader geographical area than the kind of area of multiple deprivation which is the target of the urban programme, and on these grounds might be unlikely to qualify for grant.
