§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a further statement on the progress of the microprocessors in schools programme; and if he will give details in the Official Report of the numbers of primary and secondary schools which have some computer facility.
§ Mr. Kenneth BakerMy Department's micros in schools scheme has received 5,800 applications from secondary schools. This means that almost every school in Britain has taken advantage of the scheme. As far as we can judge, every secondary school now has some computer facility, and we are the first country in the world to achieve this.
Under the primary schools scheme, which has just started, approximately 3,400 applications had been received by 20 December. I am confident that nearly all primary schools will purchase a microcomputer under the scheme by the end of 1984.
