HC Deb 20 December 1982 vol 34 c346W
Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what progress has been made in making regulations for occupational cancer in accordance with the recommendations of June 1974 by the International Labour Office; and when he expects such regulations to be published.

Mr. Waddington

Work is proceeding on the preparation of regulations to control exposure of workpeople to all toxic substances. The proposals include provisions for the control of carcinogens in accordance with International Labour Convention No. 139, concerning the prevention and control of occupational hazards caused by carcinogenic substances and agents and its associated International Labour Recommendation No. 147, which were adopted by the 59th session of the International Labour Conference in June 1979.

A working group set up by the Health and Safety Commission advisory committee on toxic substances is currently considering proposals and it is expected that detailed recommendations will be made to the Commission in 1983.

The Commission then intends to publish a consultative document.
