HC Deb 06 December 1982 vol 33 c338W
Miss Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why women in Holloway prison are denied fruit as a supplement to their diet unless they are serving a sentence of three years or more.

Mr. Mayhew

All prisoners at Holloway are served fresh fruit at least twice a week as part of their normal diet. Additionally, under arrangements made locally, fresh fruit can be purchased through the canteen to the extent that the canteen facilities allow. It is not practicable to extend this facility to all prisoners, but it has been accorded to those serving sentences of over three years. Fruit may be sent in to unconvicted prisoners.
