§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will bring forward proposals to encourage and train teachers responsible for the development of new technology in schools.
§ Dr. BoysonSubstantial numbers of teachers are now receiving training on the use of new technology in schools. Under the microelectronics education programme, it is expected that around 10,000 teachers will have attended short pilot courses in the current financial year, with a similar number likely to attend next year. The Government are now considering a possible extension of the programme after 1984. Also, in conjunction with the Department of Industry micros in secondary schools scheme, local education authorities have provided short courses for around 11,000 teachers over the past 18 months. Similarly, local education authorities will be required to provide training for primary teachers from schools receiving a micro under the micros in primary schools scheme.
