§ Dr. McDonald asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if universities which take on students over and above their target numbers will be penalised financially; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Waldegrave: The University Grants Committee has set targets for home student numbers which it regards as appropriate in the light of each university's grant allocation. The committee will consider what action, if any, should be taken if these targets are exceeded.
