§ Mr. Ernie Ross asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will evaluate the product-moment correlation coefficient between (a) the number of males out of work for one year or over and (b) the number of suicides amongst males in Scotland in each year since 1970; if the value is statistically significant; and if he will carry out a similar calculation assuming a one-year time lapse between (a) and (b);
§ (2) if he will evaluate the product-moment correlation coefficient for both Dundee and Glasgow for the following: (a) the number of males out of work for one year or over and (b) the number of suicides amongst males in each city in each year since 1970; if the value is statistically significant; and if he will carry out a similar calculation assuming a one-year time lapse between (a) and (b);
