HC Deb 29 October 1981 vol 10 c416W

Mr. Teddy Taylor asked the Secretary of State for Trade what explanation was given to the Federation of Malaysia for rejecting the application from the national airline of Malysia to undertake flights to London; and how this explanation was communicated.

Mr. Sproat:

Malaysian Airlines Systems (MAS) currently operates 4 services a week between Kuala Lumpur and London using DC—10 aircraft, but I understand that next year it may wish to change to Boeing 747s which carry more passengers. Within the framework of the air services agreement between the United Kingdom and Malaysia there is provision for British Airways and MAS to discuss capacity increases in the light of traffic on the route. That is what has been happening. No application has yet been received by my Department.
