§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will seek to replace work being lost to VCB(4) of Customs and Excise by transferring other work to Bootle.
§ Mr. Bruce-Gardyne:The reduction of work in VCB(4) is part of a continual process of increasing the efficiency of the administration of value added tax. In 1981–82 this will lead to a loss of eight posts, slightly less than a strict pro rata share of the reduction for the whole of VAT control division B, over two-thirds of which is located at Southend. Customs and Excise will continue to consider Bootle as the location for new headquarters work provided that this can be done without impairing the operational efficiency of the department.
