(Scotland) Act 1980, received by each local authority, each new town development corporation and the Scottish Special Housing Association.
§ Mr. Rifkind:The following table gives the latest available figures, as supplied by authorities at the end of September 1981, on applications to purchase public sector houses received under the Tenants' Rights Etc. (Scotland) Act 1980. These figures do not include the substantial numbers of applications received by the SSHA and the new towns for purchase under voluntary arrangements: nor do I have reliable information about applications to local authorities for voluntary sales.

§ Mr. Home Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will explain how the forecast figure of 14,000 sales during the financial year, used by the Under-Secretary of State in his statement to the press dated 1 October 1981, was calculated.
§ Mr. Rifkind:The forecast of 14,000 sales to be completed by local authorities during the current financial year takes account of the number of voluntary sales known to be still awaiting completion at May 1981—approximately 1,000—and of the number of sales under the right to buy which are likely to be completed in the current year. I believe that 13,000 is a prudent estimate of the latter figure: in making the estimate I was bearing in mind that the number of applications known to have been received by local authorities by May 1981 was about 20,000—some of which will have led to sales completed before the start of the financial year—and that the number of further applications known to have been received by July 1981 was about 3,000.
