HC Deb 23 October 1981 vol 10 c215W

Mr. Cryer asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce legislation requiring all items of machinery or material used in employment and subject to being manually lifted, carried or moved to be marked with their gross weight.

Mr. Waddington:

This is one of the issues that the Health and Safety Commission will consider in the light of advice from its working party on manual handling. Once I have been informed of the commission's views, I shall consider whether it would be appropriate to introduce legislation requiring a load marking on all machinery, or material, for use at work.
