HC Deb 21 October 1981 vol 10 cc143-4W

Mrs. Renéee Short asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East on 4 June, if any further examples have been brought to his attention where teachers' salaries are being paid for partly or wholly by parental contributions; and if so, if he will give details.

Dr. Boyson:

One further example has come to the Department's attention. The teacher involved is a part-time music teacher working for three hours per week at Monks Eleigh primary school in Suffolk. Since the beginning of the present school term, her salary has been paid partly from funds raised by the parent-teacher association and partly from a local parish trust.
