HC Deb 19 November 1981 vol 13 cc229-30W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what representations he has received about the standard of provision for psychogeriatric hospital patients; what replies he has sent; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what action is being taken to improve the standard of provision for psychogeriatric hospital patients; in how many localities he is dissatisfied with existing provisions; if he will list the localities concerned and say why he is dissatisfied; what action he is taking; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

We have not recently received any general representations about standards of provision of psychiatric care for the elderly, though from time to time we receive representations about particular problems. As regards national action, I refer the right hon. Member to my reply of 21 October to the hon. Member for Eccles (Mr. Carter-Jones)—[Vol. 10, c.156–7]—and as regards local problems to my reply to the right hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South (Mr. Ashley) on 23 October—[Vol. 10, c. 203–4].

Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many scalding accidents occurred among psychogeriatric hospital patients in the last year for which figures are available;

(2) how many hospital wards catering solely for psychogeriatric patients lack the services of a physiotherapist and/or an occupational therapist.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

I regret that the information is not available from the statistics at our disposal.
