§ Mr. John Townend
asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he has reached any conclusions following his discussion with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority on the sale of its houses to tenants.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont
Yes. This is a complex issue. After detailed discussion with the authority I have concluded that whilst it needs houses to aid recruitment, especially at Dounreay, there is scope for some to be sold. I have therefore asked the chairman of the authority to look 377W for ways to satisfy his recruitment needs with a smaller housing stock although I have made it clear that it is up to the authority to decide how to proceed. I have asked the chairman to give me a progress report in a year.
