HC Deb 15 June 1981 vol 6 cc251-2W
Mr. John Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he is satisfied with the provision for mentally handicapped pupils in Wales to be accommodated outside hospitals; and how the annual rate of spending in Wales compares with England.

Mr. Michael Roberts

Provision for mentally handicapped pupils in Wales to be accommodated outside hospitals is satisfactory. Statistics provided by local education authorities to the Welsh Office in January this year indicated that there were no mentally-handicapped children of compulsory school age awaiting admission to residential special schools. It is not possible to compare the rate of spending in Wales with that in England as suitable figures are not readily available.
