Mr. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what estimate his Department has made of the total number of jobs supported by the temporary short-time working compensation scheme for (a) Wales and (b) each of the employment districts in Wales for the last month for which statistics are available; what is the percentage of the total insured working population in Wales and each area that such a figure represents; and if he will give corresponding figures for the same month in 1980.

I regret that statistics in the form requested are not readily available for the employment districts in Wales and could be extracted only at disproportionate cost. However the following tables show the figures requested for Wales and its constituent counties for April 1981 and June 1980. Statistics were not kept by county until June 1980.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many employees in the Calderdale metropolitan district were being supported by the temporary short-time working compensation scheme in March and April.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The total number of jobs stated to be at risk in the applications from companies in the Calderdale metropolitan district that were current in March 1981 was 6,059. The figure for April 1981 as 5,991.
