Mr. Millan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what were the numbers of school leavers in Scotland in the summer and at Christmas, respectively, in 1980; and what figures he expects for summer and Christmas in 1981.

Mr. Younger

The number of school leavers in Scotland in the summer and at Christmas 1980 were 74,000 and 17,400 respectively; numbers in 1981 are expected to be about the same as in 1980.
