asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many sugar beet factories have been opened in the Common Market in the last three years; and how much labour they employ.

The only information available to me shows net changes in the numbers of sugar factories in each member State and was given in reply to the hon. Member for Isle of Ely (Mr. Freud) on 17 March—[Vol. 1, c.69–70]. Figures showing the total number of employees directly engaged in the sugar industry during the last three years for which such statistics are available are given below.
