§ Rev. Ian Paisleyasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, in view of the threat to jobs in the bakery industry caused by the smuggling of loaves from the Republic of Ireland into Northern Ireland, if he will take steps to rectify the situation.
§ Mr. Adam Butler[pursuant to his reply, 30 July 1981]: The Government have been in contact with the authorities in the Republic of Ireland about the suspected illegal importation of subsidised bread into Northern Ireland and have been assured that appropriate action will be taken to prevent subsidy being paid on bread believed to be destined for sale in Northern Ireland. The Government will continue to liaise with the authorities in the Republic on this matter.
