Member with two children after one, two, five, 10, 15, 20 and 30 years' service; how this would compare with the pension available to Members of the European Assembly; and how the grant for death in service compares in both cases.

§ Mr. HayhoeThe pension payable to an hon. Member who retired on 31 July 1981, irrespective of the number of children, would be as follows:

Member who died on 31 July 1981 would be the same, as the widow would receive half the above amount and each of the children a quarter.
A gratuity is payable on death in service equal to the greater of one year's pensionable pay, or pension contributions plus interest. The benefits available in the same circumstances to or in respect of a single mandate United Kingdom Member of the European Parliament would be identical.
In addition, hon. Members belong to an accident insurance scheme, under which £60,000 is payable in the event of accidental death in the course of parliamentary duties. Members of the European Parliament belong to a life assurance scheme under which DM20,000—about £4,400—is payable in the event of death before age 60.
