§ Mr. Higginsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the gain or loss to local authorities if dog licences were abolished; and how many people are now employed in issuing them.
§ Mr. Giles ShawIf licences were abolished the loss of revenue to local authorities in 1981–82 would be approximately £1,012,000. There would be some savings by those local authorities which presently issue dog licences. There is no information centrally available on the number of people employed by local authorities and the Post Office in issuing them.
