HC Deb 08 July 1981 vol 8 c163W
44. Mr. Bright

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many water authorities are promoting optional metering for domestic consumers.

Mr. Giles Shaw

From April 1981, optional metering for all domestic consumers has been available in areas served by Anglian, South-West, Wessex and Welsh water authorities and two districts served by Severn-Trent water authority. Southern water authority operates a limited scheme to properties where the rateable value exceeds £1,000.

North-West water authority will introduce this option from October 1981 and Northumbrian, Southern (all domestic consumers), Thames, and Yorkshire, will offer the option from April 1982.
