HC Deb 26 January 1981 vol 997 c294W
Mr. Harry Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many doctors applied for pre-registration posts in hospitals in Scotland during 1980; how many were successful; and how many were refused.

Mr. Fairgrieve

No records of applications for pre-registration posts are maintained centrally, but in 1980 there were 561 such posts available against a medical school output in Scotland of 524.

Mr. Harry Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many pre-registration posts he expects to be available in hospitals in Scotland in the present year.

Mr. Fairgrieve

The target figure agreed for 1981, following consultations with the universities and health boards in Scotland, is 568.
