HC Deb 26 January 1981 vol 997 cc302-3W
Miss Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will set out in tabular form the unemployment figures for men, women and young persons under 18 years for the last eight available quarters for (a) Birmingham and (b) the West Midlands.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Age analyses of the numbers unemployed are made quarterly in January, April, July and October and the latest available figures are for October 1980. The following table gives for these months in 1979 and 1980, the total numbers of males and females registered as unemployed in the Birmingham travel-to-work area and the West Midlands region. It also gives the numbers of young people under 18 years of age included in these figures which, because they include school leavers, are generally higher in July than in the other months quoted.
