HC Deb 15 January 1981 vol 996 c557W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies involving more than 10 workers occurred in (a) Greater London, (b) South-East London and (c) the Woolwich employment office area during 1980; and how these figures compare with those for the preceding five years.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The information as requested is not available. However, I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the number of workers involved in redundancies of 10 or more so far confirmed as due to occur in 1980 is:

Employees
Greater London 31,911
Woolwich employment office area 2,147

Figures for South East London could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Comparable figures are available only from 1977 and are as follows:

Greater London Employees
1977 7,602
1978 9,163
1979 14,177
Woolwich Employment Office area
1977 574
1978 667
1979 203
