asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the employment content of both service and manufacturing industries in the United Kingdom; and how he expects the share of total employment in each to change during the next decade.

The following are the numbers and proportions of employees in employment in particular groups of industries in the United Kingdom in June 1980.

Manufacturing industries 6.8 30.3
Other production industries 2.3 10.4
Service industries 13.3 59.3
All industries and services 22.4 100.0

My Department has not prepared any forecasts of how these proportions will change over the next 10 years.
