§ Mr. Peter MorrisonAt 9 October 1980, the latest date for which the quartely age analysis is available, 1,012 young people under 20 years of age and 1,399 aged 20 to 24 years were registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Middleton, Prestwich and Radcliffe employment offices which corresponds closely with the Middleton and Prestwich constituency. I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that between 1 April 1980 and 30 November 1980 some 570 young people in the local authority district of Bury, which covers much of the constituency, have entered the youth opportunities programme.
