§ Mr. Skinnerasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will list the authorities throughout Great Britain which have cut courses in craft and design technology from the curriculum; and which authorities intend to make cuts in these fields in 1981;
(2) if he will list the authorities throughout Great Britain which now offer only general science at O-level instead of three separate sciences; and how many secondary schools fall into this category;
(3) if he will list the authorities throughout Great Britain which have cut the teaching of a second modern language from the curriculum of secondary schools; and how many secondary schools fall into this category;
(4) if, having regard to the Education Inspectorate's findings that art, music and physical education are essential to any child's education, he will restore all public expenditure cuts which have been made in these areas; and if he will make a statement.
§ Dr. BoysonMy department does not collect information on the curricula of individual schools in England. My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Wales and Scotland have responsibility for schools in those countries. It is for local authorities and schools482W themselves to decide where reductions in expenditure are to be made and which subjects are to be offered. However, my right hon. and learned Friend, in conjunction with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales, intends shortly to publish a statement on the school curriculum which will indicate areas of study they consider should form part of the programme of every pupil.
