§ Mr. Mayhew[pursuant to his reply, 10 April 1981, c. 372]: The number of occasions in 1980 on which firearms were issued to officers of the Metropolitan Police for particular incidents involving criminals or other persons known or believed to be armed was 5,968. It is not the practice to break this figure down by police division.
