§ 21. Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the latest situation in the Scottish fishing industry.
§ 38. Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what aid he is proposing to give to Scottish fishermenn to assist them until the common fisheries policy is agreed.
§ Mr. YoungerThe industry in Scotland, as elsewhere in the United Kingdom, still faces acute financial difficulties as well as continuing uncertainty because of the absence of an agreed common fisheries policy. The Government have shown their awareness of these difficulties by making a further £25 million of financial assistance available to the industry. I estimate that the Scottish fleet will receive about half of this amount.
