HC Deb 27 October 1980 vol 991 cc168-9W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many teenagers were unemployed in Wolverhampton at the latest convenient date: and how many vacancies there were at (a) the school careers office and (b) generally in the same period.

Mr. Jim Lester

[pursuant to his reply, 8 August 1980, c. 410]: At 10 July the number of young people under 20 years of age registered as unemployed in the Wolverhampton employment office area was 4,736. At 4 July the numbers of notified vacancies remaining unfilled at the careers offices and at the employment office were 54 and 193, respectively. Vacancies notified to employment offices are estimated to be about one-third of all vacancies in the country as a whole. Because of possible duplication the figures for employment offices and careers offices should not be added together.
