Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number of those unemployed in Dundee who receive neither unemployment nor supplementary benefit; and what percentage of those unemployed they account for.

Mrs. Chalker:

At 14 August 1980, the latest date for which information is available, there were 1,800 claimants for unemployment benefit or unemployment credits who were receiving neither unemployment nor supplementary benefits in the area covered by the Dundee unemployment benefit offices, including the associated office in Forfar. This was 14.9 per cent. of the total of such claimants. However, the figure includes 1,000 claimants whose entitlement to unemployment benefit had not yet been determined.
