§ Sir George YoungI refer my hon. Friend to my reply to him on 10 March—[Vol. 980, c.423]—explaining the variety of ways in which social work students can be funded. DHSS grants and support are among the sources of funds, but no figures are available which take account of all social work training costs.
The support given by the Department in 1980–81 includes payments to 1,063 students averaging £1,845.76 in grant and £1,051.35 in tuition fees; and an estimated £1,103,000 in support of practice placements.
