HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 cc429-30W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the actual and real levels and percentage increases in unemployment pay and long-term supplementary benefit, in the case of a single person, a married person, and a married person with two children, including child benefit effects, for each year since 1970; and if he will show the increases both on a year-to-year basis, cumulatively throughout, and cumulatively on a rolling three year and five-year band.

Mrs. Chalker

I regret that to answer my hon. Friend's question on the basis of assumptions which would be needed—for example, as to the beneficiary's earnings and tax position and the children's ages—would be disproportionately expensive. He may, however, find it helpful to refer to tables 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5 of the Abstract of Statistics for Index of

with this Department and other interested organisations.
