Mr. Thornton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the population figures for (a) England and Wales as a whole, (b) metropolitan areas in England, (c) Merseyside and (d) Liverpool at the most recent date for which figures are available and at each of the two previous censuses of population; and what figures are currently projected for 1990 and the end of the century.
