HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 cc475-6W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many houses have been acquired by housing associations during the past two years with a view to improving them; how many have been improved; and how many are awaiting improvement.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

This information is not available in the form requested.

Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many properties housing associations obtained approval to build or improve in 1979–80; and how many will be provided for in the next 12 months.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

During 1979–80 approval was given for aproximately 19,000 units of new build and 23,500 units of rehabilitation. It is not possible to make an estimate for the next 12 months, since this will depend upon the number of approvals given by local authorities and the Housing Corporation.

Mr. Tilley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a table showing, for each of the Housing Corporation's regions, how much money was expended on loans and grants to housing associations in the financial years 1978–79 and 1979–80; how much it is planned to spend in the years 1980–81 and 1981–82; how much of these sums were or will be spent on housing co-operatives; and if he will also express these sums in terms of 1979 survey prices.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

I shall write to the hon. Member.
