HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 cc355-6W
Mr. Straw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the recommendation of the staff inspectors at the beginning of 1979 concerning the staff complement for the Commission for Racial Equality.

Mr. Raison

In their report presented in March 1979, the staff inspectors recommended a total complement of 278½ on the basis of the commission's current commitments.

Mr. Straw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy towards maintaining, in real terms, the present level of funding of the Commission for Racial Equality.

Mr. Raison

The commission's budget for the present financial year represents a small increase in real terms on its expenditure last year. No decisions have yet been taken on the future level of the commission's funding, which will depend upon the prevailing economic circumstances and the Government's determination to reduce the volume of public expenditure.
