Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the numbers of people and the numbers of young people who are currently unemployed in the county of South Yorkshire; and how this compares with the position 12 months earlier.

At 9 October 1980 the provisional number of people registered as unemployed in the South Yorkshire metropolitan county was 55,895, of whom 14,789 were young people under 20 years of age. The corresponding figures

region and the offices for Scotland and Wales, in respect of employment agencies (EA) and employment businesses (EB—staff contractors) as at 30 September 1980 is as follows:

of the social fund was allocated to schemes to help the handicapped in each of the past five years for which figures are available;

(2) what proportion of the European social fund devoted to schemes to help the handicapped was allocated to the United Kingdom in each of the past five years for which figures are available.
