Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the number of inspectors employed to monitor the Employment Agency Act in each of the past four years; and if he will make a statement about their future numbers.

Mr. Jim Lester

The Act was brought into force on 1 July 1976 and the following is the information:

Period ending 10.9.77=41
Financial year ending 31.3.78=43
Financial year ending 31.3.79=43
Financial year ending 31.3.80=40

The number of inspectors has now been reduced to 19.
