HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c453W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he, expects the new prison uniform for male prisoners to be available; what style it will take; how much its introduction will cost; and where it is being made.

Mr. Alison

There will be a range of civilian-type clothing in a contemporary style, comprising trousers, pullovers and shirts. Initially it will be purchased from United Kingdom sources; replacements will be supplied by prison workshops. It will be introduced over the coming months as quickly as the necessary arrangements can be completed. Costings are not yet completed, but can be contained within existing financial ceilings.
