HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c453W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the purpose of the temporary police station at Upper Galwally; how many incidents have been recorded by persons visiting the post and how much longer this building will be used for this purpose; what are the proposals for the future use of the Upper Galwally site; and when he will be in a position to determine its future.

Mr. Alison

The temporary police post at Upper Galwally was opened in January 1979 to replace the former station at Ballynafeigh which had been destroyed by a terrorist bomb attack. Since its opening 73 reports have been received from members of the public.

I am informed by the Police Authority for Northern Ireland that the future use of the Upper Galwally site is dependent on policing arrangements for this area which are presently being reviewed by the Chief Constable. It is hoped that the outcome of the review will allow a decision to be taken about the Upper Galwally site—including the future use of the police post—early next year.
