HC Deb 14 March 1980 vol 980 cc737-8W
Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Lord Privy Seal what responsibilities Her Majesty's Government carry in respect of South-West Africa.

Mr. Luce

Her Majesty's Government have no formal responsibilities in respect of Namibia. Her Majesty's Government work, however, for implementation of the proposal, put forward by the five Western powers—among them the United Kingdom—in 1978 and adopted by the United Nations Security Council, for independence for Namibia to be achieved through elections under United Nations supervision and control.
