HC Deb 14 March 1980 vol 980 c737W
Mr. William Wilson

asked the Lord Privy Seal if the Union Jack, hung outside the British Embassy in the Unter den Linden, East Berlin, on Saturday 8 March, is the only such flag possessed by the embassy; if not, why such a dirty Union Jack was used on that day; and if so, if he proposes either to purchase a new flag or to have the present one cleaned.

Mr. Hurd

The British Embassy in East Berlin has enough flags but cannot provide a clean one every day. The Diplomatic Ensign flown there on 8 March had suffered from rain the previous day.
