HC Deb 12 March 1980 vol 980 cc626-7W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing employment and unemployment in 1977 and for the latest available date, for each of the order groups of the standard industrial classification listed in the article in Economic Trends for August 1977.

Mr. Jim Lester

An industrial analysis of the numbers registered as unemployed is made quarterly and latest is for November 1979. The following table gives the numbers of employees in employment and the numbers unemployed in Great Britain at this date and at November 1977. The information is for each manufacturing order of the standard industrial classification and the industrial analysis of the unemployed relates to the industry in which the unemployed person last worked.

estimate of the total number of unfair dismissal cases heard by industrial tribunals this year; and how this compares with the number of cases there were last year.

Mr. Mayhew

I regret that, although information on the number of unfair dismissal applications and on the total number of hearings in all jurisdictions is available for the periods requested, information on the number of unfair dismissal hearings is not available. For the latest available information on unfair dismissal hearings, I should like to refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull, Central (Mr. McNamara) on 11 February—[Vol. 978. c.450–52.]
